Keeping An HVAC System Efficient That Has An Oil Furnace

An HVAC system that runs off of an oil furnace is one of the smartest ways to heat your house during the winter. The reason why is because of the amount of energy efficiency you can get from the system. For example, the heating oil that the furnace uses is able to produce heat that is a lot hotter than other furnace types, which means you don't run the system as long. However, the efficiency of an oil furnace also depends on how well the system is taken care of as a whole. Below, you will learn how to keep your HVAC system with an oil furnace working to the fullest extent.

Sign a Contract for Regular Oil Delivery

Oil is the main thing that your HVAC system must have to stay energy efficient. When there isn't enough oil for the furnace to use, you end up with less heat being produced. The best way to keep oil in the tank is to sign a contract with a heating oil service. The frequency with which oil is delivered to your house will be based on the size of your tank. How often the heating system is used will also be considered when determining how often oil should be delivered.

Don't Neglect the Air Ducts

The air ducts are a major part of the system no matter which type of furnace is being used. Get the fittings tightened up every now and then in case they are loose, as it can prevent air from leaking out. The ducts should also be cleaned so dirt and other things inside of them won't block air.

Get the Furnace & Oil Lines Cleaned

There are several parts on an oil furnace that should be cleaned if you want it to work efficiently. The burner and pilot orifice are a few parts that should be cleaned. It is also important for the oil lines to be inspected and cleaned. No oil will even make it to the furnace if the lines are not functional.

Occasionally Check the Thermostat for Efficiency

Even if there is a sufficient amount of oil in the tank and the system is clean, it won't be efficient without the thermostat working as it should. It is possible for dirt to accumulate inside of a thermostat and interfere with how well internal parts work. Hire a professional to disassemble and inspect the thermostat sometimes to make sure replacing parts or cleaning it is not needed.
